45 years of 'Star Trek': A dilithium crystal anniversary

It all started 45 years ago: On Sept. 8, 1966, the first episode of "Star Trek" aired on NBC. It very quickly captured the imagination and touched off debate of Trekker vs. Trekkie. To boldly celebrate, Space.com is laying out the history of "Star Trek" in this concise timeline, which also makes us wonder what J.J. Abrams has been doing to bring to a sequel in the rebooted movie franchise to the screen.
