4 dead after crash on Hwy. 14 near Sleepy Eye

Four people, all males ages 17 to 20, are dead after a crash Friday night on Hwy. 14 near Sleepy Eye, the State Patrol said Saturday morning.

Further details, including the identities of the victims, are expected to be released at media briefing at noon Saturday, State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said.

Multiple people were injured and at least person was dead following a collision on an icy highway just west of Sleepy Eye, authorities said late Friday.

The accident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. on two-lane Hwy 14 in Brown County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

State troopers were assisted at the accident scene by Sleepy Eye police, with helicopters taking victims to a Mankato hospital.

Police radio transmissions indicated four adults and children were injured in at least two vehicles, a pickup truck and sedan that collided.

Brown County authorities were sending sand trucks to the scene, where roadways remained slippery and more accidents were feared.

Further details were unavailable late Friday on any further fatalities.
