Many full-time Anoka County employees will receive one-time bonuses of $300 by Friday -- a surprise reward from a county board that has been fiscally cautious the past year.
Last week's "thank you" memo to all county employees said a special compensation check will go to employees "in good standing" who were hired before Feb. 14, 2011, and earned more than $10,000 last year. Benefit-eligible employees and full-time temporaries will receive $300 and those who work fewer hours will receive $150.
The March 27 memo, signed by all seven commissioners, said that in 20011 the county had successfully implemented "major budget reductions through employee-driven innovations and their extra effort during staffing reductions."
"We're happy that we're able to do it," said Commissioner Jim Kordiak, who said he would have preferred to have a small remuneration added to staffers' base pay, but was glad the board was able to do something to acknowledge employees' efforts.
