Celebrating art

Need a piece of artwork for a bare wall or empty niche? The St. Paul Art Crawl returns next weekend, a three-day showcase of more than 400 artists, open galleries and performances. Head to Union Depot for a 25-artist exhibit that will include paintings, photography, mixed media, pottery, jewelry and more. Art Crawl venues will be concentrated in Lowertown, but surrounding neighborhoods also are participating. You can download a pass for a free ride via Metro Transit on April 27 and 28. Art Crawl hours are 6 to 10 p.m. April 26, noon to 8 p.m. April 27 and noon to 5 p.m. April 28.

Stone balancing

Learn how to create impossible-looking stone sculptures for your garden at a class taught by artist Peter Juhl. Participants will get hands-on practice time and coaching on simple techniques using weight, shape and friction to turn ordinary stones into a work of art. Practice rocks will be available. The class will be offered 9:30 a.m. to noon April 27 at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Class fee is $55 ($42 for Arb members), which includes Arb admission. Register atarboretum.umn.edu.

Gardening for pollinators

Want to help the birds, bees and butterflies? Three Rivers Park District is offering a class, "How Does Your Pollinator Garden Grow?," 10 a.m. to noon, April 27. Dan Schutte of Shoreview Natives will discuss how to use native plants to create pollinator-friendly habitat. Then a ceramic artist will demonstrate how to create custom garden stakes using clay and a unique glaze technique. $8 includes all materials. Silverwood Park, 2500 County Road E, St. Anthony. $8.
