2A girls hockey final: Irondale 4, Lakeville North 1

The Knights advance to Friday's state semifinals

Game 1 of the Class 2A girls state hockey tournament is in the books. Irondale moves on thanks to a 4-1 win over Lakeville North.

Sure feels good to cover a game not ending in a shutout

There was some drama - well, sort of. Lakeville North put a puck into the net about six minutes into the third - but the whistle had clearly blown prior to the play. Still, it was reviewed by WCHA Supervisor of Officials Greg Shepard, who is here in the replay booth for this tournament. It took about four and a half seconds for it to be deemed a no-goal.

A short time later, Marie Petrangelo scored a power-play goal for the Knights to make it 4-0. No review needed on this one. She took advantage of a soooooft rebound by Lakeville North, and had all day to put it in.

North then finally got on the board with 7:27 left on a goal by Alexis Joyce, her 26th of the year.

With 2:43 left, Shepard and Co. again were put to work to review a Lakeville North "goal." This time, it took a little longer (actually, quite a bit longer) to look at, but it was ruled no good.

Edina and Roseau up next in a battle of the greens.
