A Brooklyn Park man remains jailed Monday after arming himself with a knife and hammer, robbing an Anoka County bank and confessing upon being caught, authorities said.

The heist occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bank of the West at 14125 St. Francis Boulevard NW. in Ramsey, the Sheriff's Office said.

Bank employees described to authorities the suspect's vehicle and what direction it fled. That same day a Ramsey patrol officer stopped the vehicle about a mile to the north of the bank on Iodine Court, south of Sunwood Drive "after noticing the driver was attempting to avoid detection," a statement from the Sheriff's Office read.

The suspect, who turned 21 four days earlier, was arrested without incident. He confessed to the crime, the Sheriff's Office said. The weapons used and the cash were recovered.

The man remains jailed Monday in lieu of $30,000. He has yet to be charged.
