They came, they nibbled, they voted.

More than 500 cookie fans filled the atrium at the Star Tribune Building in downtown Minneapolis today, sampling the winner and four finalists in the 2017 Taste Holiday Cookie Contest.

Most participated in our informal cookie poll. The votes have been tallied, and here are the results:

The event's participants not only have discerning tastes, they also have generous hearts. They donated $611 – that's enough to provide 1,380 meals to those in need – to Second Harvest Heartland. That's not all: the crowd also filled two enormous barrels with nonperishable food items.

A good time really was had by all, thanks to the carol-singing cast of "Sister Act" at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. The cookies were baked by Rush City Bakery in Rush City, Minn. And a special thanks to Fresh Thyme Farmers Market for supplying water, and Peace Coffee for providing coffee.

We'll see you next year!
