2008 Memorial Day calendar

Morningside Memorial Gardens, 11800 University Av. NW., Coon Rapids. Anoka County Veterans Council will sponsor a service at 10 a.m. U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann and state Rep. Denise Dittrich will speak. An 11:30 a.m. picnic is planned at Bunker Hills Park, Hwy. 14 and Foley Boulevard in Coon Rapids.

Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel, off Hwy. 5 or Hwy. 55 via the Fort Snelling exits. Service at 11 a.m. with chaplain Kenneth Beale Jr.

Nowthen Alliance Church, 19653 Nowthen Blvd., Nowthen (Burns Township). Memorial service at 3 p.m. will also recognize Anoka County women who served in the military.

Zion Lutheran Church, 241 5th Av. N., Hopkins. Service will be held at 11 a.m. in Burnes Park. A fish boil will follow at 12:15 p.m., and a free-will offering will be taken. Call 952-938-7661 for more information.

Adath Chesed Shel Emes Cemetery, 3740 Winnetka Av. N., Crystal. Jewish war veterans and Holocaust survivors will be remembered in a service at 10:30 a.m. that includes music, prayers and the sounding of taps. Holocaust survivor Margot de Wilde will speak. All veterans' graves will be decorated with a flag.

Anoka Veterans Memorial, Forest Hills Cemetery, W. Main Street and Hwy. 10, Anoka. The American Legion, Edward B. Cutter Post 102 will hold a service at 10 a.m.

Calvary Cemetery, 753 Front Av., St. Paul. Rain or shine, a memorial service and mass will be conducted by the Rev. Kevin McDonough at 10 a.m.

Champlin American Legion Post 600 will hold services at St. Fridolin's Cemetery on Goose Lake Road at 8:30 a.m., Champlin Cemetery on Cartway Avenue at 9:15 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park, Hwy. 169 and Hayden Lake Road at 10:30 a.m.

German Liberal Cemetery, 2629 Hamel Rd., Medina. At 11:30 a.m., the Hamel American Legion, John Pohlker Post 394, will perform a three-volley salute and taps.

Mankato Calvary Cemetery, at the end of Goodyear Avenue, Mankato. Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Ted Hottinger at 8:45 a.m.

Minnesota Veterans Home, 5101 Minnehaha Av. S., Minneapolis. Outdoor service at 2 p.m. by the front entrance of Building 15. In case of rain, the service will be in the auditorium. Guest speaker is Tom Mullon.

Mound Cemetery, 3515 69th Av. N., Brooklyn Center. Open 24 hours. American Legion Post 630 and Palmer Lake VFW 3915 will conduct a service at 11 a.m.

Oakland Cemetery, 927 Jackson St., St. Paul. Service at 10 a.m. at the Soldiers Rest. The guest speakers are Janice Rettmann, Ramsey County commissioner, and Lt. Col. Thomas J. Miller, executive officer of the 347th Regiment Support Group.

Old St. Thomas Cemetery, Trail Haven Road, Corcoran. The Rev. Michael Rudolph will say a prayer and the Hamel American Legion, John Pohlker Post 394 will honor veterans with a three-volley salute and taps at 10:15 a.m.

Paul Stinson Post 514, Maple Plain. The firing squad will salute veterans at Oakland Cemetery in Independence at 8:30 a.m., Christ Lutheran Cemetery at 9 a.m. and the Loretto Catholic Cemetery at 10 a.m. In case of rain, services will be held at the Christ Lutheran Church in Maple Plain.

Pioneers and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery, 2945 Cedar Av. S., Minneapolis. The 139th annual observance will begin at 10 a.m. 612-729-8484.

Prior Lake parade starts at the VFW, Main Avenue and Pleasant Street. The 9 a.m. parade will proceed down Main to Veterans Memorial Park on 160th Street and Franklin Trail for a memorial service.

Resurrection Cemetery, 2101 Lexington Av. S., Mendota Heights. Rain or shine, a mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Archbishop John C. Nienstedt. The program is sponsored by VFW Post 6690 and American Legion Hamline Post 418.

Riverview Cemetery, 333 E. Annapolis St., St. Paul. Open noon to 8 p.m. Service at 10:15 a.m.

Rockford Parade and services. Parade starts at 10 a.m. from the middle school with Navy services at the Crow River and memorial services at the Elmwood cemetery. St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Williams Drive and Judicial Road, Burnsville. At 9 a.m., the American Legion and Knights of Columbus will lead a prayer and memorial service followed by mass at 10:00 am. The Rev. Michael Tix will preside.

St. Joseph's Cemetery, 13015 Rockford Rd., Plymouth. The Rev. Terry Rasmussen will celebrate mass at 9 a.m. The Hamel American Legion, John Pohlker Post 394 will honor veterans at 11 a.m. with a three-volley salute and taps.

St. Mary's Cemetery, 4403 Chicago Av., Minneapolis. The Rev. Joseph Gillespie will celebrate mass at 10 a.m. with the Knights of Columbus Council 435 and American Legion Post 345. In case of rain, mass will be at the Church of Holy Name, 3637 11th Av. S., Minneapolis.

Stillwater Veterans Memorial, 3rd and Pine Streets, Stillwater. Rain or shine, the public memorial will be at 11 a.m. The speaker is Col. Thomas J. Simonet.

Union Cemetery, 2505 Minnehaha Av. E., Maplewood. Service at 10 a.m. with guest speaker Col. Matt Brockway and the Lakewood Temple Salvation Army Band.

Veterans for Peace, State Capitol grounds, John Ireland and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevards. Service at 9 a.m. at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The public is invited for music and poetry during a shared remembrance in the grassy area next to the memorial.
