With world-class benchmarking and tuning, the 2007 Acura MDX SUV expanded on the capabilities and the appeal of its highly successful predecessor. The 2006 MDX was marked by substantial advances in power, handling, traction, luxury and style - pushing luxury SUV performance and sophistication to new heights.
The second-generation MDX had distinctive exterior styling that built on the themes embodied in recent Acura products. Framed by high-intensity (HID) headlights, the grille retained Acura's trademark pentagon shape, but was 30 percent larger than the previous model.
A 3.7L VTEC V-6 powered the MDX and the engine was connected to a five-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift and Grade Logic Control.
The MDX featured the automaker's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. This innovative, full-time, all-wheel drive system actively distributed the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear axles but also between the left and right rear wheels.
On the road, the MDX was one smooth operator. Responsive, sure and stable, the 2007 MDX rode on a platform that featured a longer wheelbase, new suspension geometry and racetrack calibrations. The control hardware started with a four-wheel independent suspension system that featured MacPherson struts in front and a multi-link suspension with trailing arm at the rear.
Inside the handsomely appointed interior, the MDX blended purposeful sport sedan intensity with the best elements of SUV utility. Displays, controls and switchgear reflected intelligent design and arrangement with a large glovebox and plenty of nooks, crannies and bins for storage throughout the cabin. Soft leather, highly supportive front bucket seats and a driver-oriented cockpit focused on the driver without compromising passenger comfort.
The second row seats were a 60/40 split, designed to slide forward to facilitate access to the third row of seats. The rear seats are a 50/50 split configuration that was designed to fold flat with the cargo area floor.
Safety features were plentiful: Dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags with roll-over sensor, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, brake assist, electronic brake distribution, cooperative vehicle stability assist, traction control, tire pressure monitoring system, daytime running lights, fog lights, remote keyless entry, automatic Xenon high intensity discharge headlamps, engine immobilizer, HomeLink universal transceiver, side-impact door beams and trailer stability assist. Optional safety features included navigation system and rearview camera.
