Two law-enforcement squad cars collided in the north metro when one of them changed course to go after a traffic violator, authorities said.

The two officers driving were slightly hurt in the crash late Tuesday afternoon in Ramsey, according to the State Patrol.

Ramsey police officer Thomas W. Lueck, 45, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, the patrol said. Patrol officer Philip K. Jergenson, 32, was not hospitalized.

According to the patrol:

A Ramsey police squad car was heading south on Hwy. 47 near 156th Lane NW., with the patrol car behind. The police car slowed, moved to the right lane and made a U-turn with emergency lights activated to pursue a traffic violator.

It was then that the patrol car hit the driver's side of the police vehicle.
