Two people were injured early Sunday when their motorcycle crashed during an illegal ride on the Regional Bike Trail near the Hopkins-St. Louis Park border, authorities said.

Hopkins police and Three Rivers Park police responding to a report of a motorcycle crash just after 7:15 a.m. Sunday found a 24-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman lying injured next to Minnehaha Creek, according to Hopkins police Sgt. Michael Glassberg. They and their cycle had fallen 32 feet from a trail bridge after leaving the bike trail.

Unsafe speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, police said, adding that charges are possible.

The injured pair, whose identities have not been released, were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
