Two men shot and severely wounded each other at a Holiday gas station just north of downtown Minneapolis, authorities said.

The gunfire erupted about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday at the station on N. Washington Avenue just off the Interstate 94 exit to Broadway, police said. No arrests have been announced.

"This incident involves two males who shot each other," said city spokesman Casper Hill. "Each male produced a handgun during an altercation. Each male discharged their weapon. Each male suffered at least one gunshot wound."

Hill did not say what the altercation was about. He did say police recovered two guns at the scene.

Officers provided medical attention to the men before paramedics arrived. The men were taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center and were last reported to be in critical condition, according to police.
