2 arrested in thefts from boats on Lake Minnetonka

Two adults have been arrested in connection with a spree of thefts from boats docked on Lake Minnetonka, authorities said Thursday.

Tips to law enforcement "were valuable in the investigation" that yielded the arrests, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lisa Kiava said in a statement. She declined to say any more about the arrests, citing the ongoing investigation.

Authorities last week warned boaters to take extra precautions on the lake after alcohol, tools, radios and televisions were stolen in at least 16 reported thefts.

The crimes took place at marinas and private residences in Tonka Bay, Orono, Mound and Spring Park. Surveillance video of one incident is posted at www.startribune.com/a1578.

Authorities still want to hear from anyone with information about thefts on the lake. Calls can be made to the Sheriff's Office at 763-525-6216.

Authorities are reminding boaters to remove electronics and other valuable items from their boats and to use security lights and secure hatches and lockers.
