19 cats found in cramped room in Racine County home; 10 euthanized, others put up for adoption

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. — The Wisconsin Humane Society says 19 cats were found in a cramped room in a Racine County home. Ten had to be euthanized, and some of the others are being put up for adoption.

The Journal Times of Racine (http://bit.ly/1ba5WxD ) says deputies were serving an eviction notice last month at a rooming house in Mount Pleasant. They found 19 cats living in a room measuring 10 feet by 12 feet.

The felines had food, water and a litter box, and police initially reported that none was obviously sick or injured. But Human Society director Angela Speed says it turned out 10 cats weren't in condition to be adopted.

She says cats kept in hoarding situations sometimes develop unseen medical issues or become too feral for human contact.
