18-year-old man dies in shooting in Stillwater

Police have detained one man as a person of interest.

An 18-year-old man was killed in a shooting in Stillwater on Friday evening, according to Stillwater Police.

The man, Charles O'Connell, of Stillwater, was shot in a residential area near the intersection of 75th Street N. and Interlachen Way, according to police. One man is being detained as a person of interest, authorities said.

O'Connell was taken in a private vehicle to Lakeview Hospital, where Stillwater police were called about 7 p.m. Friday. He died in the hospital a short time later.

"There is no further threat to the community of Stillwater," Police Chief John Gannaway said Saturday.

Authorities are investigating the shooting, Gannaway said.
