A 16-year-old boy drowned Friday night in a swimming pool at a Plymouth apartment building, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

The boy had been pulled from the pool by a family member about 7 p.m., said sheriff's spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson.

First responders tried to revive him at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at North Memorial Medical Center shortly after 8 p.m., she said.

The pool is in a building at 15300 37th Av.

Dispatchers initially had a language barrier with those calling for help, one of them said.

The sheriff's mobile crime lab and a detective were called to the scene. The teen's identity will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
