A 16-year-old girl from southeastern Minnesota was killed in a head-on collision on Hwy. 52 in Fillmore County on Thursday night, authorities said.

Just before 9 p.m., a pickup driver headed north on the freeway crossed the centerline and struck the teen's sedan, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The girl, whose identity has yet to be released, was wearing her seat belt but was fatally injured and died at the scene.

The pickup driver, 55-year-old Cindy L. Mueske of Ashland, Ill., was unbelted and ejected from her vehicle when it rolled into a ditch. She was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester with noncritical injuries.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed a portion of Hwy. 52 between Chatfield and Fountain to investigate the crash.
