After drawing 32 nominations, the inaugural running of the $150,000-added Mystic Lake Derby on Saturday has drawn a field of eight, comprising four shippers and four local hopefuls, all vying for a share of the largest purse since Canterbury Park reopened under new ownership in 1995.

The morning line favorite at 5/2 is Gung Ho, the third-place finisher in the Grade 1 Bluegrass Stakes. The others are North of Never, Hammers Terror and Delegation. Leading the local contingent will be Tequila Factor, Take Heart, Corporate Chapel and Why Frank.
The Mystic Lake Derby, with a purse of $162,000 if all entrants start, is the first significant co-promotional event since the $83.5 million cooperative marketing and purse enhancement agreement was reached last month between Canterbury Park and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. The Mystic Lake Purse Enhancement Fund will contribute $100,000 to the race purse.
Saints bullpen keeps T-Bones at bay After the St. Paul Saints took a lead in the seventh inning, their bullpen took over, shutting down the host Kansas City T-Bones for a 5-4 victory and a split in the first two games of the three-game series. Ole Sheldon was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored for the Saints.
