A 12-year-old boy was hospitalized Monday morning after he was hit by a car Sunday night in Elk River, the State Patrol said.

The boy, identified by the patrol as Ian Kniseley, was crossing Hwy. 169 at Main Street just after 9 p.m. when he was struck, said State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jesse Grabow.

Kniseley was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with life-threatening injuries, Grabow said. His condition was not released.

The driver, Christopher Tatu, 36, of Osseo, was not hurt.

Roads were wet at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation, the patrol said.
