A 12-year-old Iowa boy died in a single-vehicle crash Monday in southern Minnesota.

The boy was riding in a pickup truck going east on Interstate 90 that left the road about 11:25 p.m. and entered the center median near milepost 140 in Foster Township in Faribault County. The truck then crossed both eastbound lanes before it entered a ditch and rolled, the State Patrol said.

The boy, whose name was not released but was from Des Moines, died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Kyle Backhaus, 48, of Des Moines, was identified as the driver of the pickup. He was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys campus in Rochester with life-threatening injuries, the patrol said.
