12-year-old Illinois girl dies when go-cart strikes truck

ROCK FALLS, Ill. — A 12-year-old Illinois girl has died in a go-cart accident.

Police say the girl died from injuries sustained in a go-cart accident Monday at her father's house in Rock Falls. The girl was riding the go-cart when it ran into the back of a flat-bed truck parked in a driveway. Police say the girl hit her head on the truck frame and her chest rammed into the trailer hitch.

The girl was taken to a local hospital and then flown to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wis. Police said they were notified of her death Monday evening.

The girl wasn't immediately identified pending notification of her family. The Daily Gazette in Sterling reports (http://bit.ly/19g8ozh) the girl was a student at Tampico Middle School.
