1 man dead, 1 badly hurt in Dakota County crash

November 9, 2012 at 2:50AM

Alcohol and a lack of seat belts are suspected to have played a role in a deadly one-vehicle rollover crash Thursday afternoon in Dakota County, according to the State Patrol.

One man was killed and another was critically injured when a westbound pickup traveling at a high rate of speed left Hwy. 50 near Hogan Avenue and rolled over about 2:40 p.m., according to patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske. The crash happened just west of New Trier.

Dennis P. Underwood, 27, of Cannon Falls, Minn., died at the scene, and Keri James Gesme, 26, of Hampton, was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he was in critical condition late Thursday.

Alcohol was detected in both men, and neither was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

It was not yet determined which man was driving.
