1 killed in fiery Winona County car-semi crash

One person died when a car going the wrong way collided with a semi-tractor trailer on a Winona County highway Friday afternoon.

About 12:30 p.m., a car that was traveling the wrong way on Hwy. 61 near Milepost 16 collided with a southbound semi, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash caused both vehicles to catch fire. According to wire reports, the highway was closed for nearly 20 miles in both direction as crews fought the fire for more than an hour.

The driver of the car, whose identity has not been released, was killed. The truck driver, Robert J. Siebenaler, 65, of Lewiston, Minn., was not hurt.
