A little of this and that from down at Target Center today:

* Former Augsburg star and L.A. Laker Devean George expects to come to camp with the Wolves and hopes to stay around in a player development/mentoring role if injuries or trades don't open a roster spot for him.

At age 34, the three-time NBA champion figures he learned a thing or two from mentors Ron Harper, John Salley, Mitch Richmond, Shaquille O'Neal, Brian Shaw, Glen Rice, Karl Malone and Kobe Bryant that he can pass along to the Wolves' young players.

"What better way to get advice than from somebody who has seen that movie that you're watching right now?" George said after working out at Target Center. He didn't play last season because he said he had off-the-court issues that needed attending and last played for Golden State during the 2009-10, his 11th NBA season. ·

* Ricky Rubio was in Canada on Monday on way to Minnesota and training camp. Why the detour? He had to go to an American embassy/consulate to get a work visa and all those are outside the U.S. so, after spending the last two months in L.A., he probably went to the one in Vancouver. He's expected at Target Center in time to work out on Wednesday, barring no complications.

* The NBA cleared teams to have contact with their players – but not be involved in any of their workouts – on Monday. So David Kahn went downstairs for a bit Monday afternoon and watched slimmed-down Kevin Love shoot and work out with fellow UCLA Bruin Malcolm Lee. "He looks great," Kahn said of Love, who has lost 25 pounds and is now down to about 240.

* Lee used the lockout to work on his body and his game. He has added some muscle and now is up to a chiseled 205 pounds "I can play both the 1 and the 2 and my offense is just as good as my defense," said Lee, a second-round pick who flew from warm, sunny L.A. to his new home on the red-eye flight overnight Sunday and arrived at 6 a.m. "I know they're real aware of my defense."

* Rick Adelman and his entire coaching staff – Terry Porter, Jack Sikma, T.R. Dunn, Bill Bayno, his son David and son R.J. (who will work a front office/game prep job) – all are in town after arriving on Sunday.

* No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams is not expected in to work out until Wednesday because his mother's birthday is tomorrow. ·

* Still no word yet if Adelman's going talk about team for the first time before Friday's media day that kicks off camp. It's not for the lack of asking, let me assure you, Wolves fans.
