Minnetonka's season-opening opponent was Hudson (Wis.). Truth is, Hudson may as well have been the Washington Generals for how little it factored in the game.

Minnetonka's offense did pretty much everything it wanted to do and the defense kept Hudson from doing much at all in a 43-23 romp at Minnetonka's Einer Anderson Field.

Even the majority of the Hudson scores were reflective of what the Skippers did — or didn't do: two quick second-quarter touchdowns as the result of breakdowns in kick coverage and a third-quarter safety.

Tonka quarterback Nick Rooney had an uneven season in 2012. With a year of experience, he looked much more comfortable running the offense.

Rooney was decisive in his decision-making and precise with his throwing, tossing first-half touchdown passes of 58 and 27 yards to senior receiver Mitch Felknor.

The Skippers also got short touchdown runs from Rooney and two from Vance Barnes as they built a 36-14 halftime lead.

The second half started much as the first half ended, with Minnetonka going 60 yards on its opening drive, taking a 43-14 lead when Rooney dived over from 1 yard out.

It was a fitting culmination, as it was Rooney who spearheaded the march, completing all three of his passes for 47 yards, including a brilliant 23-yard laser to Matthew Watt that set up the touchdown.

Rooney finished with 208 yards passing and two touchdowns and scored twice on runs.

The stats might say that he was nearly flawless, but Rooney, while pleased, wasn't satisfied

"I think I played OK," he said. "I missed a few throws I should have had, but overall, yeah, I did OK. The most important thing is getting the W."

Hudson managed a late touchdown to make the score a bit more palatable, but the Skippers never were threatened.
