The original plan for the Lynx was to wait until the Thursday deadline to make any roster moves.

What happened in Monday's preseason finale changed that a bit. In a loss to Connecticut, the Lynx allowed the Sun 19 offensive rebounds and committed 22 turnovers. And so, coach Cheryl Reeve changed her mind.

"When we got to the end of the game, we sat down as a staff," she said. "We felt we had to work through some issues, clean some things up in practice. And the less people that were struggling to know what we were doing the better."

So guards Chucky Jeffery and Jacki Gemelos were waived. That leaves one more move to be made by the Thursday deadline, and the Lynx will have to choose between free agent center Shawnice Wilson and guard Ta'Shauna Rodgers, the team's second-round draft choice.

The guess here is the Lynx will decide to keep Rodgers, an extra perimeter player. The Lynx have a number of people -- starting with Maya Moore -- who can slide down and defend in the post in certain situations.

Meanwhile, center Janel McCarville (sprained left ankle) and guard Lindsey Moore (calf) appear close to returning to practice. Both were able to take part in the walk-through portion of the practice, when plays were being installed. Moore in particular is close; she wanted to go full-out today, but Reeve decided to take it slowly.

I believe not having McCarville healthy for much of camp has slowed the process of the team finding a groove. The next few practices before the June 1 opener will be important.
