TIVOLI MODEL ONE DIGITAL $299.99
This allows streaming in a good-looking radio

The Tivoli Model One Digital is housed in a solid wood cabinet with a very simple two-dial interface with a small round screen. The original only flowed radio. This one is updated with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth streaming.

Tivoli radios are known for their good FM reception, and the Digital is no exception. Every station sounded rock solid.

You will need the free smartphone app to connect music streaming services such as TuneIn and Spotify. Note Apple Music and Pandora are not supported through the app. You will need to use the Bluetooth function for those. The Model One Digital also has an aux-in jack for a wired connection to your music source.

One of the radio's coolest features is the ability to connect wirelessly to other Tivoli speakers to form a stereo pair or even a multiroom audio system, all controllable from the app. The sound is great. The Model One Digital sounds good at low volumes, and it sounds even better when you turn it up. It would have no trouble filling a kitchen or bathroom with sound.

If you want to get serious about making it a system for your living room, you will want to add a second to make it a stereo pair.

However, a warning: The app setting up a streaming connection or grouping speakers is way too complicated. It takes too many clicks to get music streaming. Let's hope there is an app redo to match the sound.

Can't afford Office? Try this alternative

If you subscribe to the online version of Microsoft Office for Windows, the tab is $100 a year or more than $350 for the Pro version, which includes Word, Excel and more. If you needed a free alternative, try OpenOffice. The package includes a word processor (Writer), a spreadsheet (Calc), a presentation editor (Impress), a vector graphics editor (Draw), a mathematical formula editor (Math) and a database management program (Base). OpenOffice is open source software, which means programmers contribute their time and expertise to continually improve the programs. It has the same look and feel as Microsoft Office — with which it's compatible — and you can't beat the price. It's available for Macs, too.
