The death of a worker who was hit by a mail truck June 18 at a Brooklyn Center post office has been ruled an accident.

Leo M. Brandt, 58, of Brooklyn Park, was struck in the loading dock at the post office in the 6800 block of Lee Avenue. Brandt suffered numerous injuries in what the Hennepin County medical examiner's office said Thursday was an accident.

In a tribute on Facebook, City Council Member John Jordan said Brandt "was formerly our postal carrier in our neighborhood and loved by so many people."

Jordan said the two attended Edinbrook Church in Brooklyn Park and that Brandt "worked in prison ministries for years attempting to help men who were incarcerated."

The National Association of Letter Carriers has set up a memorial fund for the family at Leo Brandt Memorial Fund, c/o US Federal Credit Union, 1400 Riverwood Drive, Burnsville, MN 55337.
