LA CROSSE, Wis. — A 19-year-old man has life-threatening injuries after falling from Interstate 90 along the Mississippi River.
Town of Campbell Fire Chief Nate Melby tells the La Crosse Tribune the man is hospitalized after falling 45 feet into a coffer dam, which is a large metal structure built to support a construction project.
The man fell about 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Assistant Fire Chief Gary Brauer tells WXOW-TV the man was trapped in a confined space below the bridge after the accident.
Rescue workers used a boat, rescue basket and crane to reach him.
Brauer says the man is a worker on the bridge project.
