A sexual assault occurred early Sunday morning near the University of Minnesota campus.

Police responded to the site on the 1100 block of SE. 5th Street at 1 a.m. Sunday, according to a release from the university.

The victim, 18 years old, was attending a fraternity party at the residence when she was approached and sexually assaulted by an unknown man. She was able to get help from bystanders and the suspect fled. No one at the scene recognized the man.

The victim described the subject as a black male, 18 to 22 years old with a light build and a medium complexion. He was approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches, was clean shaven, had short dreadlocks and wore a dark T-shirt and dark pants.

The release states that anyone with information about the incident can call 612-692-8477 or use the Minneapolis Police Department tip website to speak with investigators. Tipsters can also call Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Minneapolis police are handling the investigation.
