A 76-year-old woman crossing Hwy. 169 in Sand Creek Township from her mailbox was killed by a passing motorist Saturday afternoon. The accident happened around 1 p.m. at 173rd Street. The State Patrol says the woman walked in front of a southbound car and was struck. She died at the scene. Her name hasn't been released, pending family notification.

The driver, a 41-year-old New Prague man, wasn't injured.

Lt. Eric Roeske of the State Patrol said it doesn't appear the man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The accident remains under investigation.
