Timberwolves shooting guard Kevin Martin is scheduled to have surgery Tuesday to repair his fractured right shooting wrist.

The decision to opt for surgery rather than let it heal in a cast was chosen in an attempt to get him back on the court sooner, perhaps within six weeks, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Martin broke his hand midway through the first quarter of Wednesday's game against New York but he went on to play 35 minutes and score 37 points anyway.

Martin did something similar in November 2009 when he broke his other, non-shooting hand, while playing for Sacramento and scored 46 that night and 29 the next game before the injury was diagnosed.

He had surgery to repair that fracture and miss more than two months that season.
