Wisconsin chooses Tony Granato as men's hockey coach

MADISON, WIS. – Tony Granato is set to be announced as the new Wisconsin men's hockey coach, according to multiple reports.

Granato, a two-time second-team All-America as a Badgers player from 1983 to '87, will succeed Mike Eaves, who was fired March 18 after 14 seasons.

Granato, 51, has been coaching in the NHL since 2002, including two stints as head coach of the Colorado Avalanche. He has been an assistant with the Detroit Red Wings the past two seasons.

The hire was reported Sunday morning by ESPN and USCHO.com.
