Wisconsin bowler rolls perfect game ... if not for that gutter ball

The bowler knocked down all 10 pins with 12 different throws. And yet he wound up with a 270 instead of a 300.

As we've (hopefully) shown at past RandBall Redactular events, we tend to roll fairly decently on the lanes. We believe our all-time best bowling score is 234. We've had several runs of 4, 5, 6 and even, once, 7 strikes in a row. That hardly makes us a great bowler, but it does perhaps help us empathize with a Wisconsin man named Brian Wilk, who rolled a perfect game recently ... except for a pesky gutter ball.

Brian Wilk, on his 38th birthday, pitched a "12-strike" 270 game -- with one of the "strikes" coming after what Newkirk called a "a rather unfortunate gutter ball" that fell off Wilk's hand. Every other shot (including the spare) was flush in the pocket, Newkirk said.

Ouch. That hurts. Patriots fans, can you help us out?

Perhaps this is more common than we realize and we're only interested because -- unlike Stensation, who sent us the link -- we don't scour Madison.com's daily local bowling roundup. The author of the writeup, though, indicates it could have been worse:

Years ago, I had a similar game that earned me a ribbing for some time. I actually rolled a "13-strike" 270 that included a foul thanks to a shoe/approach issue.

Over the line!
