A motorist ran a stop sign in her car and was fatally broadsided by an SUV at a northwestern Wisconsin intersection, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 10:45 a.m. Friday near Clear Lake in Polk County, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Killed in the collision was Sarah E. Maloney, 65, of nearby Clayton, the patrol said. The other driver, Billy K. Hacker, 66, of Menomonie, Wis., was hospitalized with noncritical injuries.

According to the patrol:

Maloney was heading east on 60th Avenue and "failed to stop at the stop sign" at County Road P, a statement from the patrol read.

Hacker, heading north on County Road P, hit the passenger side of Maloney's car.

Both drivers had on their seat belts, and authorities detected no alcohol use by either motorist.
