Senior running back Alex Franzwa ran for two touchdowns and 150 yards as Winona smothered South St. Paul 24-0 in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state football tournament Friday night at East Ridge High School.

Franzwa bookended the dominant performance for the Winhawks with scores in the first and fourth quarters, while junior quarterback Riley Bosteter chipped in by completing 10 of 20 pass attempts for 103 yards and running for 23 more.

Junior Dan Jonsgaard punctuated the win, running for a 16-yard TD with under 4 minutes remaining.

The Winhawks' defense played a part, forcing four turnovers from the Packers, while the offense didn't give the ball away once.

Marshall 40, Fridley 7: Marshall overcame an early fumble and a Fridley touchdown to score six unanswered TDs en route to the victory in a Class 4A quarterfinal game. Marshall running back Jefferson Lee V led the offense with 150 yards rushing. Lee accounted for four of Marshall's touchdowns and a successful two-point conversion. Leon Deshield scored the lone touchdown for Fridley, which is ranked 11th in the Class 1A coaches' poll, on a 1-yard carry.

Benilde-St. Margaret's 42, Cloquet 7: Ricky Floyd scored four touchdowns in Benilde-St. Margaret's rout of Cloquet in the Class 4A quarterfinals at Chisago Lakes High School. Floyd scored three times on the ground in the first half and finished with 227 rushing yards for the Red Knights (8-3). He also caught two passes for 35 yards and a touchdown from quarterback Will Whitmore. Tim Porkornowski of the Lumberjacks (7-4) finished with 108 rushing yards and connected with Mitchell Gerlach on a 29-yard touchdown pass to spoil the shutout bid with eight seconds left in the game.

Rocori 30, Orono 7: Connor Schoborg and Derek Thompson connected on three touchdown passes to lead Rocori past Orono. Gunnar Feldhege had an 88-yard touchdown run and Uriel Rodriguez kicked a 22-yard field goal for Rocori. Nick Prentice scored a short touchdown run late in the game for Orono to avoid the shutout.

Class 2A

Maple River 12, Norwood Young America 7: Jeff Lewis threw for 104 yards and ran for 118 yards and a touchdown to lead the Eagles past the Raiders. Nathan Moore made field goals of 25 and 20 yards in the first and fourth quarters. Hunter Rickaby scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter to get the Raiders within a score, but they couldn't get into scoring position the rest of the game.

Class 1A

Rushford-Peterson 44, Murray County Central 21: Noah Carlson scored five touchdowns to lead the Trojans past the Rebels. Lukas Rasmussen helped the Trojans pull away in the fourth quarter by returning a kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown and recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. He later intercepted a Rebels pass. Both turnovers led to Carlson touchdowns in the final 5:15.

9-Man

Grand Meadow 36, Edgerton/Ellsworth 0: Christopher Bain ran for 219 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Superlarks to their 47th consecutive win.
