2014 Sand Point Lodi Sauvignon Blanc

The red wines from California's Lodi region tend to be large and in charge, sometimes over the top. But the 2014 Sand Point Lodi Sauvignon Blanc ($13) is quite the opposite: clean and lean in texture, with refreshing acidity. Fortunately the flavors, foreshadowed by a nose that's equal parts herb, spice and fruit, deliver boundless goodness, culminating in a surpassingly regal finish. I loved the balance on this beauty. It's made by the Lange family, which five generations ago settled in Lodi and grew watermelons before going to grapes in 1974. I can't imagine a better al fresco wine, but this gem also will work beautifully with appetizers and most any seafood.

Available at Harbor, Apple Valley munis, Team Liquor, Richfield muni (Lyndale Av.), Hy-Vee (Oakdale), Cheers, the Little Wine Shoppe and others.
