2014 Domaine de Fenouillet Ventoux
Red blends from Southern France are one of our best sources for value wines, and the 2014 Domaine de Fenouillet Ventoux ($15) fits right in that bailiwick. I loved how the chewy, chunky syrah (20 percent) and carignan (5 percent) led the way before the fresh, vibrant Grenache (75 percent) took over. The nose is smoky (but not too) and herby, and those elements also add to the complexity on the midpalate. The spicy, robust finish will leave you wanting more. Bring on some grilled chicken or pork chops for a splendid pairing, and consider keeping around a bottle or two for the Thanksgiving table.
Available at Zipp's, Cork Dork and South Lyndale.
