As Ray Edwards prepares to make his pro boxing debut on Friday night at Grand Casino Hinckley, it appears the Vikings defensive end already might be making plans to continue his fighting career against a recognizable name.

Promoter Jared Shaw told MMA Weekly Radio that he wants to arrange a fight between Edwards and former UFC fighter Kimbo Slice. Slice gained fame as footage of his street fights made their way to the Internet and then began in Mixed Martial Arts.

"I'll tell you right now on the air, I've called Mike Riley to get in touch with Ray Edwards' people and I've made an open challenge to come fight Kimbo Slice. That fight I will deliver," Shaw said on MMA Weekly Radio, per an item posted on the offthebench portion of the NBC Sports website.

"If Ray Edwards wants to step up and fight Kimbo Slice I will deliver that to the public. There's two guys that come from athletic backgrounds, that haven't been in the ring that many times, so let's see two big boys bang it out. If Ray Edwards thinks he's a great boxer, then maybe he thinks he can go through Kevin Ferguson [that is Slice's real name] very quickly."

Edwards has an agreement that calls for his return to the ring in June at Grand Casino Hinckley. It's not clear if Slice could be the opponent for that fight or if a potential Edwards-Slice matchup would be conducted down the road.
