The Wild signed defenseman Gustav Bouramann to his three-year, entry-level contract Friday. That deal will slide to next year as long as he doesn't officially turn pro in North America (i.e. Iowa) this season.

Bouramman, 19, scored six goals and 40 assists and had 43 penalty minutes in 68 games with Sault Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League in 2015-16, ranking T-3rd amongst all OHL defensemen in assists and T-5th in scoring.

If you've watched him play in Wild development camps, you know why the Wild value him. Looks like the 2015 seventh-rounder has a future.

He'll arrive in Minnesota in 10 days for rookie camp. After training camp, the Wild will get with his agent to decide his future. He has a chance to return to Sweden to play pro for Lulea, but the Wild controls where he goes now and I'd assume the team wants him to stay in North America and develop on the smaller ice.

So returning to junior remains an option unless the Wild wants him to turn pro with Iowa.

Couple other items:

The local pro camps put on by Octagon and Sheehy Hockey are going on around town now. I was down at Octagon's today at Braemar and Eric Staal, Jason Pominville and Jared Spurgeon have joined Wild teammates like Zach Parise, Mike Reilly, Kurtis Gabriel, Mario Lucia and Alex Stalock.

Several NHLers like Nick Bjugstad, Paul Martin, Drew Stafford, Dustin Byfuglien, Brock Nelson, Kyle Okposo, Jake Gardiner, Ryan McDonagh and Derek Stepan are down there, too.

Staal scored a nice goal today, and Lucia scored a couple beauties. Reilly continues to fly.

Erik Haula left today for Finland to take part in World Cup of Hockey training camp for the Finns.
