Wild and Dumba agree on a two-year contract

The Wild's offseason business with its restricted free agents is over.

The team on Thursday agreed to terms with defenseman Matt Dumba on a two-year, $5.1 million contract. The 22-year-old will earn $2.35 million next season and $2.75 million in 2017-18 for a salary-cap hit of $2.55 million.

Dumba, drafted seventh overall in 2012, totaled career highs last season in games played (81), goals (10), assists (16), points (26), power-play goals (six), game-winning goals (three), shots (152), hits (83) and blocked shots (56).

• The Gophers women's track and field team tied for the national lead in an academic honor. The Gophers had 23 athletes selected by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as All-Academic selections. Only Stanford had as many. The Gophers also received All-Academic Team distinction. The team grade-point average of 3.49 led the 11 Big Ten Conference.

• The University of St. Thomas will induct one administrator and 13 alumni-athletes into its athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies on Sept. 17. The class includes former coach and associate athletic director JoAnn Andregg; football's Josh Ostrue (Class of 2011) and Ben Wartman (2011); men's basketball's Tyler Nicolai (2011); softball's Maria Bye Linnaus (2008) and Alison Wright Tierney (2010); baseball's Matt Schuld (2010); track and field's Matt O'Connell (2008), P.J. Theisen (2008) and Shara Guidry Wallick (2008); women's hockey's Tanaya Reitz (2006) and Jackie Carroll Baker (2009); swimming and diving's Jena Root (2011); and wrestling's Joel O'Brien (1997).

• Dan Johnson pitched seven shutout innings, leading the St. Paul Saints to an 8-1 victory over the Saltdogs in Lincoln, Neb.
