Did you catch Candice Wiggins with Jim Souhan on 1500ESPN just before noon?

She is making the media rounds today, pumping up the Lynx just as she did her teammates on Saturday night. The Lynx, down 20-10 early, rallied to beat Los Angeles with a spark from Wiggins.

The reserve guard hit two three-pointers early in the second quarter to fire up the Lynx and the crowd of almost 9,000. The team's 20th win enabled the Lynx to be the first team to clinch a playoff spot this season. Their last appearance in the playoffs was 2004.

She said the Lynx struggled last season, with similar personnel, because of injuries to her (knee, Achilles' tendon) and Seimone Augustus (abdominal surgery). "It was a rocky year," Wiggins said.

This year, she said, it helped that Cheryl Reeve was back for a second season as head coach. Also the Lynx added Maya Moore.

"Maya came in and picked it up real fast," Wiggins said.

She also said Lindsay Whalen is playing well at point guard. "She is our leader," Wiggins said. "She is real confident. She is a vet."

The victory against LA clinched a playoff spot for the Lynx but this season is not successful yet, Wiggins said, until the team makes a deep playoff run.

"All bandwagon jumpers are absolutely welcome," Wiggins said. She said she has enjoyed seeing Lynx fans wearing old Katie Smith jerseys at game and jerseys with her name on it sold during her rookie season in 2008.

Her goal and the team's goal, Wiggins said, "is nothing less than a championship."

The next step to reach that goal, Wiggins said, is to finish with the best record in the WNBA to have home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. "If we do that, we can set ourselves up to be playing in the championship [series]," Wiggins said.
