Those in the study who followed the Mediterrean diet were advised to eat the following:

Recommended

At least:

• Olive oil (4 tablespoons a day)

• <CHARENTITY>3</CHARENTITY><CHARENTITY>7</CHARENTITY>Tree nuts and peanuts (3 servings a week)

• Fresh fruits (3 servings a day)

• Vegetables (2 servings a day)

• Fish (especially fatty fish) or seafood (3 servings a week)

• Legumes (3 servings a week)

• Wine with meals, optional (7 glasses per week)

Discouraged foods

• Commercial bakery goods, sweets, pastries, (less than 3 servings a week)

• Spread fats (less than 1 serving a day)

• Red and processed meats ( less than 1 serving a day)
