Baseball, the all-American pork-time?

The Minnesota Pork Board is teaming with the Minnesota Twins for the Flavor Pitch Pork Recipe Contest, with the creator of the winning recipe earning a 16-person Target Field suite package on Sept. 20 to watch the Twins play the Cleveland Indians. Pastor Jimenez, executive chef at Target Field, will choose the winner from 10 finalists determined by fan votes on the Minnesota Pork Facebook page. Sept. 8 is the deadline for entering, reviewing or voting for a recipe. Pork must be an ingredient, but doesn't have to be the primary ingredient. Include an original photo of the prepared recipe. The contest is open to anyone in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota or Wisconsin. The official rules are at bit.ly/1jZveEo.

Dining locally

The Support Minnesota City Supper is yet another opportunity to dine on foods and beverages from the state's artisan community, while getting to know area farmers and producers who make it possible. A three-course dinner prepared by Whole Foods Market chefs follows a meet-and-mingle from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 9 at Peace Coffee Roastery, 2801 21st Av. S., #130, Minneapolis. There will be spice samplings from Prairie Chai, craft projects with the Textile Center, a chance to make your own boutonniere or bouquet with Minnesota flowers and music by the Last Revel. Tickets are $60 through supportminnesota.eventbrite.com, with 100 percent of ticket sales to benefit the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy's sustainable food initiatives.

Hot dish at 30,000 feet

Wish we could have told you about this contest a little earlier, but there's still time if you act right now! Sun Country Airlines is noting its first year at the Minnesota State Fair with a hot dish contest in which the winning entry will be served on its flights. The grand prize winner also gets a pair of travel certificates to anywhere Sun Country flies in the domestic United States. But your recipe must be submitted by Aug. 1, so don't dawdle. Favorite recipes — nothing in the rules say they must be original — should be submitted to statefair@suncountry.com with the subject line: "Hot Dish Taste-Off." Three semifinalist recipes will be selected and those cooks must be able to attend the taste-off at the State Fair on Aug. 28. For details, visit www.suncountry.com/hotdish.
