Shortly after it opened its first Twin Cities office, co-working provider WeWork has announced plans it will open another space in Minneapolis.

WeWork signed a lease for 46,000 square feet in the MoZaic East building, which is being developed by the Ackerberg Group in Uptown. WeWork is the first tenant for the office building.

The eight-story, 198,000-square-foot building on Fremont Avenue S. between Lagoon Avenue and the Midtown Greenway, is scheduled for completion late next year. It's being constructed behind Ackerberg's MoZaic West building.

"To have an international, cutting-edge operator such as WeWork is a great endorsement of the Uptown area and our MoZaic development," Ackerberg Chief Executive Stu Ackerberg said in a statement. "WeWork will be an amazing addition to the vibrant work environment that exists at MoZaic."

WeWork opened an office in Capella Tower in downtown Minneapolis during the fall.

Rebranded Graduate Hotel opens at U's East Bank campus

The Graduate Minneapolis Hotel, a remake of the Commons Hotel, has opened on the University of Minnesota campus.

The 304-room hotel was purchased by Adventurous Journeys Capital Partners late last year.

The hotel, on the East Bank campus close to Walnut Street and the light-rail line, was enhanced with food-cart services designed by pastry chef Richard Ruskell and a gastropub called the Beacon.

Its decor is a mix of collegiate vintage, with gym-like hardwood floors; North Woods lodge, with printed fabrics depicting an angler; and a touch of Prince, with models of little red Corvettes in the rooms.

Graduate Hotels operate in college towns across the country. In the Big Ten, the chain is on the Wisconsin and Michigan campuses and next year will open on the Indiana University campus.
