Kindergarten preview event set for Oct. 27

Families with children going into preschool through third grade are invited to Blessed Trinity's Preschool and Kindergarten Open House from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 27.

The event is a chance to watch teachers in action and will end with a school lunch. It will be at Blessed Trinity's Penn Campus, 7540 Penn Av. S. in Richfield.

Blessed Trinity's preschool is for children ages 3 and 4, with morning and afternoon session options and preschool child care available before and after class.

Blessed Trinity's kindergarten offers full- and half-day options and child care before and after kindergarten class.

Eden Prairie

Presentations set on referendum

The Eden Prairie School District has scheduled three opportunities for parents and community members to hear an informational presentation about the operating levy and technology/capital projects levy ballot questions that will be on the ballot on Nov. 5.

The presentations will be held in the boardroom of the district's Administrative Services Center, 8100 School Road. All sessions will be from 7 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 14, Oct. 23 and Oct. 29.

A question-and-answer session will follow each presentation.

Golden Valley

Breck to host admissions event

Breck School will host an all-school open house and barbecue from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Prospective families of students in all grades, from preschool through grade 12, will have the opportunity to tour the campus, meet teachers and students, and ask questions about the admissions process and financial aid.

There will be classroom activities throughout the building, and both student and parent guides will be on hand to lead tours.

Information sessions about kindergarten

Hopkins Public Schools is hosting a series of kindergarten information sessions.

The sessions are a chance for parents to learn about kindergarten and the larger Hopkins elementary program, including recent curriculum additions such as STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and world language.

Starting next year, Hopkins Public Schools also will be offering free full-day kindergarten at all six of its elementary schools.

Hopkins will continue to offer Chinese immersion through XinXing Academy to all district families and families who wish to open enroll, starting in kindergarten. Before- and after-school child care will continue to be available at all schools for a fee.

Parents of 4- and 5-year-olds, as well as parents of younger children who have questions, are invited to attend any of these kindergarten information sessions:

Delano

Elementary named Blue Ribbon School

The U.S. Department of Education has named Delano Elementary as a National Blue Ribbon School. The award is based on the school's overall academic excellence.

The Department of Education requests nominations from the top education official in every state. It will honor 236 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 18-19 in Washington, D.C.
