Registration for student-run preschool

There are currently openings in morning and afternoon preschool programs offered at Eden Prairie High School for children ages 3 to 5.

The preschool is planned, organized and taught by students in the parenting and child psychology classes at the high school. The dates for this year's preschool are Nov. 22 to Jan. 23. Children must be available to attend Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The morning session is 8:10 to 10:40 a.m. and the afternoon session is 11:50 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. A $50 donation helps cover the cost of snacks and supplies for the entire session.

Bloomington

'John Lennon & Me' on stage

Bloomington Jefferson High School Theatre Company will stage John Lennon & Me Oct. 24 to 27 in the school's auditorium, 4001 W. 102nd St.

Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 to 26 and 3 p.m. on Oct. 27.

This national award-winning play tackles issues of life, death, power and first boyfriends in an uproarious and dramatic way. Star, the ultimate Beatles fan, has her life plans stymied by cystic fibrosis. Courtney, Star's hospital roommate, does not appear to be seriously sick, but dramatically changes how Star views life.

Tickets are limited and will be available at the theater door one hour before show time. Adult tickets are $10 and $8 for students and seniors.

A special senior citizen preview performance will be given at 4 p.m. Oct. 23. Tickets are $5 and can only be purchased at the theater starting at 3 p.m. Oct. 23.

Teacher of the Year nominations open

Robbinsdale Area Schools is accepting nominations for the 2013-2014 district Teacher of the Year through Dec. 9.

This is a program through Education Minnesota that leads to the National Teacher of the Year honor. Anyone can nominate a teacher — students, parents, administrators, colleagues and community members. Self-nominations are also accepted.

The nomination form can be found online at www.rftonline.org. Paper copies of the nomination form are in the main office of all elementary, middle and high schools and programs, including Early Childhood Family Education, Early Childhood Special Education and Creative Play Preschool.

Paper copies can be submitted to the Robbinsdale Federation of Teachers office, 2960 Winnetka Av. N., Suite 100, Crystal.

All teachers who teach pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, hold a Minnesota teaching license, have completed at least three full years of teaching by the nomination deadline and intend to teach in 2013-14 are eligible. This person will represent Robbinsdale Area Schools at the state Teacher of the Year program.

Hopkins

Fruit fundraiser to support 2 groups

The Hopkins High School International Club and the Hopkins Rotary Club are conducting their annual fruit sale fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit both groups. Items for sale include oranges, grapefruit and cashews, chocolate pecan turtles and whole-bean coffee.

Students will make their sales by calling homes on the evenings of Oct. 14, 21 and 22. The fruit will be delivered Nov. 23 from 8 a.m. to noon. Arrangements can be made for residents who will not be home for the delivery.

The Hopkins International Club is a diverse mix of American, exchange and immigrant students. International Club activities and events are recreational and free. They include bowling, roller-skating, snow tubing and more.
