Board filings open through Aug. 12

The filing period for the three Osseo School Board seats that will be up for election this fall will continue through Aug. 12.

During the filing period, district residents who are interested in running for school board can file affidavits of candidacy in the superintendent's office during regular office hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. On the final day, Aug. 12, the office will remain open to receive affidavits until 5 p.m. The superintendent's office is located in the Educational Service Center, 11200 93rd Av. N., Maple Grove.

The filing fee for school board seats is $2. A candidate must be an eligible voter, 21 years of age or more on assuming office, a resident of the school district from which the candidate seeks election for 30 days before the general election, and have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same primary or general election.

Shelby to speak at Lifetime of Learning

The Lifetime of Learning Task Force has planned an event at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Armstrong High School that will feature veteran Twin Cities broadcast journalist Don Shelby.

Shelby, an anchor, author, artist and actor, will talk about his journey into retirement and how to invent a creative retirement.

The event is free, and reservations will not be taken. Seating is limited. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. For information, call 763-504-6980.

The Lifetime of Learning Task Force is a west metro group of community organizations that include the Plymouth/Wayzata libraries, the cities of Plymouth and Wayzata, Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners, YMCA, and the Wayzata and Robbinsdale school districts.

Blue Water Theatre to put on 'State Fair'

The Blue Water Theatre Company of Wayzata will stage the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical "State Fair" Thursday through Saturday at Wayzata Central Middle School.

Set in the 1940s, "State Fair" tells the story of the Frake family's travels from their small-town Iowa farm to the legendary Iowa State Fair.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 31; Friday, Aug. 1 and Saturday, Aug. 2. Tickets are $14 for adults and $11 for students. They will be available at the door beginning one hour before each performance, or in advance online at www.bluewatertheatre.com. Seating is general admission.
