BLOOMINGTONSchool district earns environmental award
The Bloomington School District has received an environmental leadership award from the Freshwater Society and Fortin Consulting.
The award recognizes the district's efforts to dramatically reduce the amount of sand and salt chlorides used during the winter to maintain its school parking lots, walkways and roads.
With assistance from the city of Bloomington and the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District, the school system used new methods and innovative tools to maintain safe roads while also helping to repair Minnesota's waters and sustaining its natural resources.
In addition to equipment and storage changes, the district develops and teaches a workshop to help school building-and-grounds directors make cost-effective, safe and environmentally conscious winter maintenance choices.
