Credit union project wins approval

The Chaska City Council recently approved plans for new branch of Wings Financial Credit Union to be built on an outlet of the SuperTarget at Pioneer Trail and Hundertmark Road.

The new 5,100-square-foot building will be on an unused northeast section of the SuperTarget parking lot and will be separated from residential development on the south side by a berm and wall. The project is tentatively scheduled for early 2016.

Wings currently has 12 branch offices in the Twin Cities area.

Annual Christmas event set for Dec. 6

Delano's "Old-Fashioned Christmas" will be held Dec. 6.

The annual event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes an "art walk" featuring local artists' work, activities and holiday music all taking place throughout downtown Delano.

Apply for the police academy by Jan. 9

Minnetonka residents interested in participating in the police's citizen's academy must apply by Jan. 9.

The eight-week program provides residents with an in-depth look at the police department, taking place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from Feb. 3 to March 24. The academy is open to anyone 21 years or older who lives or works in Minnetonka. For more details and to apply, go to eminnetonka.com.

Commission members sought

The Minnetrista Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission have openings.

The city is conducting appointments for 2015 for two seats on the Planning Commission and one seat on the Parks and Recreation Commission. The Planning Commission reviews applications for development, variances, land use applications and proposed policy changes for new or updated ordinances. The Parks Commission reviews applications new park proposals. Both bodies make recommendations to the City Council.

Applications are available at City Hall or on the city's website. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. Dec. 19.

ROBBINSDALE

Crime prevention meeting is Dec. 3

The Robbinsdale Police Department will hold a crime prevention meeting Dec. 3 for Robbinsdale residents.

It will take place at 7 p.m. at the police department, 4101 Hubbard Av. N., Robbinsdale. The meeting will include information on how to prevent becoming a target of crime during the holiday season.

Prostate cancer group to meet Dec. 3

The North Memorial prostate cancer support group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the Vance DeMong classroom in the Main Hospital Building of North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale. Coping with the treatment side effects of urinary incontinence/erectile dysfunction will be discussed with Dr. Dean Tortorelis, urologist. Wives, family and friends are welcome. 'Old-Fashioned' holiday is Dec. 6

The City of Plymouth and Plymouth Historical Society will hold their annual "Old-Fashioned Christmas" event Dec. 6.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 2-5 p.m. at the Plymouth Creek Park, 3625 Fernbrook Lane. It includes visits with Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, elves and reindeer along with cookies, s'mores and a horse-drawn sleigh ride for participants to enjoy.

The event is also a PRISM Toy Drive drop-off location to donate new, unwrapped toys for kids from birth to age 18.

SHOREWOOD

Arctic Fever in need of volunteers

Arctic Fever, the free winter festival held in downtown Excelsior, is in need of volunteers for the event Jan. 16-18.

The festival is hosted by the cities of Shorewood, Tonka Bay and Excelsior and will take place in Freeman Park, Manitou Park, downtown Excelsior and the Commons park. Events include human bowling on the ice, dog sled rides, ice skating and bonfires.
